Putting my car back together after replacing the above along with the JTR cross member spacer I had on planned on and purchased a 3/4" bump steer spacers. After putting this on and putting it back together the bolts that hold on the steering knuckle and pass thru spacer are hitting on the two outer most ball joint bolts at full turn. I removed the spacers and put this all back together and the bolts no longer hit but they are so close that a piece of paper will not fit between them. The outer tie rod end also hit my rim while the bump steer spacers were installed so the rim would not fit on all the way. I have great pics but can't for the life of me figure how to get them on here to get help. I have looked in the photo gallery for some pictures of the ball joints installed as well as the bump steer spacers installed. I have bloody hands with this darn thing and fustration is running high. johnc Posted March 21, 2005 Share Posted March 21, 2005 Just a wild guess here (assuming you have the steering knuckles on the correct side of the car), could you have the wrong ball joints? blueovalz Posted March 21, 2005 Share Posted March 21, 2005 After looking at the pics of my suspension, I cannot imagine why the bolts would hit unless the ball joints were installed from the bottom instead of from on top. as for the steering knuckle hitting the rim, I've seen (with deep back spacing) wheels of small diameter (14" and maybe 15" wheels) hit this arm (this was with the 1" spacers) because it has been lowered relative to the wheel. My arms actually ride just inside the wheel's ID, but only because of the 17" wheels. If I had used smaller wheels, this back spacing would not have cleared the steering arms. Also, make sure the correct arms are on the correct side. The Ackerman angle will make the arms point outboard instead of the normal inboard bend if they are on the wrong sides. I had the ball joints under the control arm not on top ....so as I found out that lowered everything. My bump spacers are re installed however they still hit the stock 14" rim. However as I progress the rims will be replaced with the 15" panasports so I think I will be ok. Now I need to get those bump spacers off ebay!! thank you!
