I was wondering which connecting rod length would be a better choice for a supercharged(roots) 383 stroker. The 6" or the 5.7"? Something about stroke/rod ratio comes to mind. Can anybody expound, if i have not been too vague?

Dan,

I think that the choice comes down to available parts. I think the consensus is that the longer the rod, the better (better rod/stroke ratio, reduced piston side load, etc).

For my 383, I used a SCAT 9000 crank designed for 6" rods. Same with the pistons, designed for 6" rods. Naturally, I used 6" rods. If you can get the right parts, I would vote 6" rods also for you. As for the LT1, I don't know what is available though.

Sorry if this doesn't help...

Very helpful, the LT1s do have cranks designed for a 6" rod available in the aftermarket i was just looking for a little backing in the fact that 6" rods are better. Thank you.

Dan,

I have the 6" rod for my TT383 Chevy. However, if I had to do it again I would go the 5.7" rod because the wrist pin would not intrude into the oil ring groove. The 6" rod, thus, requires a special support ring in addition to the oil ring to strengthen this area.

Also, the 5.7 rod allows more meat to be located at the piston crown to handle elevated cylinder pressures.

There are other considerations but for boost pressures I vote for the short rod.
