Guest 73Turbo240z
I was looking at my 240z (L24) rods last night seeing how i could improve them before assembly, and i noticed there is a notch/dimple thing toward the crank end of the connecting rod on every rod. It's just a little dabble of extra metal that pokes out on each one in about the same spot, is this a balancing thing? casting flash? can it be removed? cause i'm debating having the rods polished then coated, and need to know if i can remove that little nipple on each connecting rod, anyone have input on it? cheftrd
Does it have a little hole in it? If so, then........ Its the rod oil splashers, throws the oil up under the pistons
burntz
Its the rod oil splashers, throws the oil up under the pistons If I remember correctly these are actually little holes drilled in the rod that start from the crank end and actually sprays oil on the thrust side of the bore and the underside of the piston. GLENN280ZX
The Oil Squirted From This Little Hole Also Oiles The Cylinder-wall. Most Race Preped Rods Are Peened Or Dimpled Closed. Mine Are And I Have Bushed Rods. You Can Also Check This Out In 'how To Modify You Datsun/nissan' Good Book.
