I know I seen it on this site, but for the life of me I can't remember where. I typed in chassy, tube frame, cage. strut braces in the search and didn't find it. I probably am forgetting the right word for the search issue. Can anyone help me? I believe the pics were on cardomain.

I think you're referring to "74 5.0L Z". Here's a link to a post with some of his pics.

I tried to search for his posts in the search section but for some reason it couldn't find him, even when i unclicked exact name. Go to the member list and halfway down page 4 is him.

He had a head on collision with a pickup and rebuilt the entire front end. I saw it in person at one of SEZS's and it is beautiful.

Take care.

Thanks Man. That was the one! I seem to remember pics of it setting outside without the front fenders and hood on. It gave you a real good shot of his work. The whole chassy looked bullit proof. I think that was before HybridZ did an overhaul of the web site. Many pics were lost then. Thanks again.

Thanks. That car is an insperation to more than a few of us. My friend wants to set up his race/street Z something like yours. He doesn't have a computer so I do the looking for him. He's running a V32 in his with a 5 speed. It's going to scream around that autocross track! I have this stock 260 setting here and it's very tempting to drop a SBC into it. I have to finish my SBF first...lol

That car certainly an inspiration. I have thought about cutting the front end of my car off of mine as well and doing a very similar thing (except use a SBC with vib mounts).

I really like how you tied the rocker panel into the frame rail. I feel like that is a very large weak spot with the stock front end.

Are you driving this car yet? If so, how has it held up? How about handling, any notable differences from the stock chassis?

You have a detailed drawing of your main hoop. Is this the drawing that the main hoop was bent to? Where there any changes to these dimensions after this drawing? It looks to fit very close. I would very much a similar type of fit.

Did you use the stock suspension mounting points (other than probably moving the LCA inner pivot up)? Did you use the stock rack and pinion? If so, what did you do for the oval looking crossmember mounts?

Finally, I was considering using a Mustang II style front end if I went with this radical front end lop. Any thought about this, good or bad? Seems like a rather inexpensive and simple way to get power steering if desired. There are also good brake kits available that seem to be inexpensive. Heck, the front end with R&P, A-arms, crossmember, etc is rather cheap from Heidts. They list variable track widths also. Just curious.

Thanks for any and all ideas/suggestions/answers.

Joshua

Thanks for the praises of my work. It means a bunch after all the time and money involved.

I use the stock rack and pinion and stock front crossmember(with the LCA mod). The suspension mounting points are the same as stock except for the following:

The top of the front strut towers have been moved aft by 3/4" to increase caster. The angle of the strut tower top has been increase from 13.75 degrees to 15 degrees. The T/C rod pivot at the body has been moved upwards 3/4" and out 1/4".

The drawing of the main hoop is the exact drawing that mine was made from. It fits VERY, VERY tight. One thing that is not shown on the drawing is the angle cut on the bottom. My bar is installed leaning back 10 degrees, so the bottom of the main hoop has a 10 degree cut to match.
