Guest tejas74260
hey ya'll, just wondering, i plan in the future to do some engine mods to my l26 motor (possibly just use an f54 block with flat tops with my e88 head, but might try to find another head if that's gonna give me problems), anyway, when guys like rebello racing do their big bore SU's, do they just replace them with SU's off a different car with larger diameter bores or do they actually bore out the stock SU's? i have round tops from a 1970 240z, and i really like em so i wanna see what i can do so they'd keep up with a high compression l28. thanks for your help Mark
TheNeedForZ
Not an expert by any means but from my recollection, people that use bigger SU carbs get a bigger SU from another vehicle, then re-shape intake orfices on the Z car so air will flow better. Do a search on SU...
Tim240z
I remember reading somewhere that the Jag ones can be used (?)....
Guest tejas74260
I remember reading somewhere that the Jag ones can be used (?).... yeah i think it was either that, but i've heard volvo ones are used too...oh well i suppose i could figure it out. do you think its safe to do porting on the carbs? cause i know a guy who does carburetor porting work for little pocket bike carbs, and he does an awesome job for not a lot of money, so if the stock carbs can be bored i might just send them to him. not to change the subject, but just to add something on...do ya'll think it would be worth spending the money on a different head? (i know everyone has their opinions on which one) cause i dont really wanna spend a whole lotta cash, just wanna find a f54 block with flat top pistons and use my e88 head, but i've read with those compression ratios (high nines to low tens depending on which HG you use) dont work well with the later e88's cause they have a bad ping tendency. but anyway, any imput on that would help, cause i wanna try to budget this pretty tightly, though i suppose it wouldnt hurt to search a salvage yard....thanks Mark
Guest bastaad525
You CAN bore out the stock SU's but not by very much... you have to be REAL careful as well. There are a lot of other tricks you can do with stock SU's to help them flow better... though I cringe to recommend anyone to go there, if you go to zcar.com, there is a guy who posts there regularly, and occasionally posts over here, his screen name is NormThe12secSUdude or something very close to that, he runs stock SU's that he's done all kinds of tricks to and he runs a high 12 second 1/4 mile on a mildly built up stroker block, which any N/A street drive L motor that can put a Z into the 12's is pretty impressive. He has a post over there from a long time ago that I used to have the link but dont anymore... a very detailed post on most of the tricks he's done to his SU's to get them to flow better. About Rebello's larger bore carbs, I'm 90% sure those are Jag carbs.

They are real works of art however, all needles are custom made.
