Another project fired today!!!

Well....if Helms would write a decent FSM, I could have done this last week. I must admit, the 'Carline' FSM that I have for the 94 Z28 (used for the LT1/T56 swap in the Z) was wayyyy better done!!!

Anyways, I fired the engine in the 71 truck today....I love that feeling!!

I put in an L31/4L60E from a 99 Suburban (5.7L Vortec). Still gotta find some radiator hoses to let it run, but everything seems OK. I should be able to get some great fuel mileage now with the 4 speed auto!

BTW, I have a complete 350/350 sitting in the garage now if anyone needs a good powerfull (about 360hp) drivetrain for their Z. I built it about 5 years ago and have only put about 8k miles on it. Excellent shape.

Now to clean up the wiring and paint the truck! Then work on the Opel, then start building the 350TT for the Z, then find something else to do.... :-D

Good Work! I understand the feeling completely, almost a relief sort of thing.

I felt that way when I fired my 81 Chevy Truck using a custom built (my grad school project) DIS system running an 8051 microcontroller. Everything was custom built, and I wrote the softwarem machined the parts, etc. A bunch of work, but what a victorious feeling when it started, the first try no less!

What are you asking for the 350 engine you now have left over? Did you rebuild the Vortec? If so, what non-stock things did you do to it? I am thinking of building the one I have for my 85 Suburban.

Joshua,

The engine that came out of the truck is a 69 truck block, 4 bolt mains, '10 block.

I used the stock crank and rods, but new bearing, pistons, rings, cam lifters, etc etc.

It has a pair of vortec heads with the upgraded valve springs (allowing for .525 lift, I believe IIRC) and has a L98 Corvette grind. RPM performer intake and 750dp. HEI dizzy. Oil pump, water pump etc etc was all new at rebuild.

PM me if you are interested.

Tim
