DriftZ
Does anyone drift with their Z cars? If so, which parts do you find work best? Also how safe is it to drift with wheel adapters?
PUSHER
Does anyone drift with their Z cars? If so, which parts do you find work best? Also how safe is it to drift with wheel adapters? Ive been to 3 or 4 with my z a while ago. Same as any other car. Stiffer springs with appropriate shocks, lsd and a seat should get you started. People have drifted with wheel adapters before. might find this car interesting http://www.davescholz.com/public/davey.html My suggestion, buy a 240sx, s13 or s14 if your looking at a drifter/daily driver. DriftZ
Thanks a bunch, those pictures were quite good. ( It helps that my car looks very similar, lol) I will stick with my 280 for drifting because it would be a little bit different than all the 240sx's running around. Also what do you guys think of just cutting the stock springs as a temporary solution to lower and stiffen the car, until i can get some new springs. Guest Battle Pope
Cutting springs sucks, but it works as a very temporary solution.
PUSHER
I wouldnt really waste the time. I'd suggest one drift event on stock everything, when your sick of bashing your head and knees around you'll relize you need allot stiffer springs. DriftZ
Also whenever I drift the gas splashes up and runs down the side of the car out from the gas cap. The gas cap is on tight, so do I need a new gas cap or is this a common problem with these cars?
wheelman
Driftz, Is the car on the cardomain site yours? If so it's a 280ZX and has a much different rear suspension than a 280Z so when you go to research parts be sure you're looking at the correct model. The 280ZX has a semi-trailing arm rear suspension and the 240, 260, and 280 Zs all have transverse link rear suspension. You can debate which is better but they are different which is the point I wanted to make. As for cutting the springs, if you're going to throw them away later anyway I say go for it but you'll definately want to upgrade everything at some point so it's adjustable and very stiff. I'd look at the filler neck and all the vent tubes to try to determine where the fuel is spilling out. It might be a vent hose or it could be that the gasket in the cap is bad and replacing it will cure the problem. Wheelman
Drftn280zxt
I have a 280zx that drift in quite often, I'm still looking for ways to stiffen suspension. I've considered eibachs, but I would much rather just have all out coilovers. Of course other options are sway bars, urethane bushings, strut tower bars, and for drifting, Good Brakes. Sorry I am not much help, I am kind of limited in my tuning abilities. Until I can get an LSD and better suspension, I am going to focus on getting some more power out my L28ET. Of course my drifting is still limited to the streets, (vacant no traffic streets), gotta finish school first, then do up the car.
