iistevo84ii
(Puts on newbie flame suit....) I recently (two weeks ago) bought a 1976 280z from on of the guys that had it posted in the for sale section. Now that I have the car, it is my natural habbit to begin to find out any/all information about the car (the detailed stuff that is). Ive been looking in the "archives" about the r-200 diff. I came across a huge list of what year a make Datsun's came with the r-200. The list said that 75-76 280z had 3.54 r-200, however it did not specify what transmission, and all the other makes did! So I guess that brings me to two questions. My title says my car is a 1976, and the car is an automatic. Did they even make a auto in 1976, or is my car maybe a 77 or 78 posing as a 76'?? Second question, if my car is a '76, did all the 280z's in that year come with a r-200 reguardless of auto or stick?? Sorry if these questions seem dumb, im new to the z world. COZY Z COLE
If your car has a stock auto. and diff. it's a R-180. LARRY
BrianV8Z
Most of the information I have found shows the 76 auto cars as having R180s. My 76 had an auto trans and an R200. There is no way to tell if it was changed by a previous owner. The best way tell if you have the R180 or R200 is to find a picture of each diff and crawl under and take a look. Hope this helps. COZY Z COLE
There was no 75-78 280Z'S built for the US market with an auto tranny/R-200. Any of these with a R-200 was swapped after the car was in the US. http://www.geocities.com/inlinestroker/ratio.html LARRY

Guest Phil1934
I look at the moustache bar. If the ends curl forward ro hold the busings, it's a 200. If they curl back, it's a 180.

RedZ85
well...looking at the information you supplied in your post, every diff. index i've seen for datsuns says 81-83 turbo-all r200 3.54 Emphisis on the "all", would lead me to believe that its an R-
