Guest E.Murray
I was driving in traffic yesterday and took off from a stoplight (rather gently, actually) and smoke started pouring out from under the hood and into the cabin. "Peachy" I thought (or something similar), as I pulled over to have a look. When I opened the hood, there was transmission fluid (I'm pretty sure anyway) pooled in the valleys in the intake and splashed all over the firewall. The smoke was coming from the fluid sizzling on the header. It looks like the fluid came out of the dipstick tube. Any ideas on why this would happen? I had only been driving about 5 minutes and ambient temp was about 60 degrees. There was no advance warning and after I pulled over, sat for a couple minutes, and re-started it ran fine all the way home and (after topping the level off) it has been fine all day. The fluid didn't look or smell burned and the tranny doesn't slip (except in reverse if going up a steep hill). Ideas?
80LS1T
Is there a vent on the tranny? I had that happend at work last week with a Stratus, the vent tube was blocked off causing it to "burp" out fluid at the dipstick tube... Just an idea.... johnc
Check for a clogged vent as posted above and also check for an air leak on the suction side that might be causing foaming.
