JMortensen
I don't know if you need it or not to be honest. I thought it was necessary. No impact is a bummer. Best you can do then would be to put the car in 4th and have someone stand on the brakes while you tighten the bolt.
Guest iskone
I don't know if you need it or not to be honest. I thought it was necessary. No impact is a bummer. Best you can do then would be to put the car in 4th and have someone stand on the brakes while you tighten the bolt. I tried that when i took it off and it wasn't working. To take it off I made a stop out of a 2x4 bolted it to the block and when it hit the pistons I was able to get it loose. I have another plan i think might work but I'm worried about my starter. In this plan I would get my socket wrench wedged against the ground and then turn the key. I would'n try and start it just barely engage the starter. I have a spare starter I might use for this. As far as the new bolt is concerned from what I read it is a heat treated bolt with rolled threads. IMO it would be nice to have but I'm not paying $40 for a bolt I don't think is nessecery. JMortensen
I've used the starter to break the crank loose, haven't used it to tighten it up. The starter puts out quite a bit of torque...
Guest iskone
Well it's the same concept so it should work. Did you get it loose in the first shot? Isk
JMortensen
Yep. My first Z had that bolt STUCK. My friend who is VERY strong and a mechanic for 15 years couldn't budge the thing. Did just like you said with a breaker bar on the ground and the bolt came loose on the first try.
