rayaapp2
Who here is running Z31 forged pistons in their L? I can't find any specs other than bore to tell me if they will work. Is there a problem with deck height? Custom Rods maybe? I've been searching for manufactures of forged pistons for my engine. Everything seems a little expensive. If Z31 pistons are as easy as using another rod setup and boring the block 1mm then finding aftermarket forged pistons for a Z31 might be easier than searching for "Datsun" L-series pistons... a.k.a. un-obtainium for under 400bux. I'd much rather spend money on a turbo upgrade or somthing. I've seen custom pistons for my 454 through Wiseco for less than that.
evildky
I am gonna guess pin height on the z31 casues an issue? I truely have no idea, but the wiesco's from summit are only like $369 not sure of the bore/dish but thye have them
510six
My first 3 liter stroker used Z31 pistons, 240z rods and a diesel crank. The Z31 pistons have a pin heigth that is 6mm shorter than a L series piston.Z31 turbo pistons would work fine for a 3 liter turbo build.Z32dett pistons will also work but the rods have to be modified to fit the larger 22mm pin that are also full floating rather than press fit like the L series. rayaapp2
So if you spent $300 to get it done then you saved $100. But I would be using different rods so it might cost me more. Depends if I can find a good set of H beam rods.
510six
Unless you are going to be running a huge HP engine the stock rods should be fine.If your looking for a reasonably priced set of forged pistons you might want to contact http://www.brcpistons.com/ as they made a set for me w/o rings or wrist pins ( I had both) for around 500.It gets expensive in a hurry building a 3 liter stroker.
