rick phillips
i searched this the other day and couldn't find anything. so one quick question. does the vin denote a california car (converter) or federal (non-catalyst) we are starting emission testing and i am just curious how they will know my 280 is a non-catalyst. thanks rick
COZY Z COLE
No, the vin number does not. The smog shop has a book to reference the equipment on the car and there should be a sticker tag on the hood. It's visual check only. Therefore it depends on the tech person.... LARRY
Sparks280zt
on my 280z, the door plate says "non-catalyst" what year is your 280?
rick phillips
thanks guys i appreciate the help. my 280 is a 77 and it has the non catalyst label under the hood as well. our only tampering check is on the gas cap and the converter visual checks i guess i was hoping to avoid raising the hood and showing the chevy engine. we have heard some horror stories from our first month of testing. thanks again rick
randy 77zt
tennessee-just starting testing?good luck.what are the rules on engine swaps?the communist state a kalifornia has had testing for many years.but you can update a car with a newer engine.but the newer engine must have a emission controls hooked up and working.
