David K
ok there were 10 OEM oil filters going for 7.99 and i waited till 20 seconds till the end and i posted 9.00 and some guy saw it, and posted 9.50 dang! i mean some people REALLY watch these things not only down to the last minute, but to the very last second! oh well, my dream of having a year+ shelf full of oil filters for 9.00 no longer exists. it goes along with my dream garage thoughts. someday young david, someday........... Tim240z
Dude, the guy had a higher bid than that. He probably put in a bid of say $20, which would then automatically outbid you by the lowest increment (50c in this case..)
David K
did you happen to be watching that item?
Tim240z
No, but that's how it works.
David K
well i posted 9.00 and i was winning for like 5 seconds..oh well still new to ebay, i will learn.
Guest Anonymous
David , you were winning for five seconds until his bid reserve kicked in with $.50 increment..... you put a bid in the last few minutes with a a set amount of reserve to override the others biders reserve. Denny 411 suspects that some bidders have "snipe" programs that can get a bid in and a reserve amount in the last moments of an auction
Tim240z
TZ, yes there are several programs that can place a bid within a fraction of a second before the auction ends. Some people are wayyyyy to serious about their bidding!! Tim
spotfitz
There are times when this can be a good thing. I've been watching for some SS windshield wipers on ebay. Not the arms, just the wipers. I found some. 1 bidder at $9 or so. I bid max $15 and watched it. Got up the next day with 1 hr 20 minutes left. Still in the winners circle. Went to work and checked it with about 2 minutes left, still the winner. Got home that evening and I had lost it by $.50. Good thing. Just today I picked up both complete SS arms and wipers, and a rear arm/wiper setup for an '82 to go on my '74 for, you guessed. $
Guest zfan
Whats funny about Ebay is people will bid crap up over the retail price. I think they get caught up in the got to have it at any cost mentality. Saw a pair of used Edelbrock Rpm heads go for more than I paid for mine new? Guest Anonymous
David , you can always go into oil changes as a sideline business.
