Plastic cap on end of stock injector

I recently removed my injectors and noticed all of the plastic caps on the end of the injector, the end that goes in the manifold, were cracked and one even fell off. How important are these? Should I replace the injectors?

TIA

I believe they are called plintels or something like that. I too had lost some and was told that they would still work without them. I ended up replacing all of mine though. They were really old and it was time. I found this interesting and very basic. Probably won't help though but just the same: http://autorepair.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=autorepair&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fmy.netian.com%2F%7Esonskl%2Fecu%2Fbosch%2Fbosch.htm

It's a half and half proposition. I have run some without the pintile caps, and the spray pattern didn't seem affected at all. But on another brand of injector, cutting the pintile caps off to make them fit caused a TOTALLY different spray pattern (?!?!?!?!) so rig up a test jig and see what happens to yours when the cap is removed.

There are sources for replacements available, check online sources. Dunebuggies.com seemed to have an extensive listing of injector information.

The way I look at it, someone took the time to put it there, and if they could have cut the cost and improved profitability by omitting it, thye would have, so it must be there for a reason (I may not understand what it is, but nevertheless...)

I still have the injectors connected to the fuel rail and the spray looks good. The injectors do have over 225,000 miles on them though. Are the GP Sorenson injectors from Auto Zone any good?

I originally took the injectors out because my car runs rough under 2000 rpms. It idles really choppy and rough but if I pinch the fuel return line the idle smooths out. Also if I pull off and plug the fuel pressure regulator vaccuum line it also will smooth out. So it sounds like it runs lean. Does anyone have any thoughts on that or what it could be?

TIA
