mario_82_ZXT
I think you get spark every time the voltage grounds on the neg side of the coil. The wire from the base of the distributor should be the condensor wire. That should go to the (+) side of the coil. If you are 100% sure the wiring is right, and still no spark, do the HEI gating test. If that works, then something toasted inside the MS box (happened to me, easy repair). Hope you get it, Mario
zero
ok so let me see if i can list the sum total of wires relating to ignition and be sure that i have that wired right. fidle to g terminal of hei with a 1k resistor pull up resistor connected to the 5v vref terminal and to the fidle wire. w terminal to engine ground b terminal to positive terminal on coil c to negative terminal on coil 12v switched power to positive terminal on coil condensor between the base of the dizzy and the positive terminal on the coil. I dont think i have the right condensor, what car should i say i need one for to get one at a parts store. Also, how would I go about testing the hei, and is it possible to test the ms unit without a stim board, which i dont have because I bought an assembled unit. envmyz
I know this may sound dumb, but are you sure that the coil has power while cranking? Some 12v sources are cut when the engine is cranking.
zero
i should still have power during cranking. the 12v source is just a toggle switch running to the battery.
mobythevan
I dont think i have the right condensor, what car should i say i need one for to get one at a parts store. A condenser is not really car specific, it is just a noise filtering capacitor. For simplicity just get one that matches the coil. If the coil is 280zxt then get a condenser for that car. zero
i picked up a condensor for a 280zxturbo, but it was a single wire condenser with two spade connectors on the same wire, dont really see how i could connect that to the base of the distributor without burning things up.
