1976 280Z: Stock springs, toyota 4-pots.

I did some searching but couldn't find a whole lot. I suck at searching anyway. I'm hoping someone will have a quick answer.

 

1976 280Z. Stock brakes and suspension. Eventually I'll be getting the Tokico springs/Illumina struts package (which I assume requires the same backspacing as stock). I'm going to be running Diamond Racing Pro Series wheels in 15x8 front 15x10 rear. My question is, with stock (or tokico) springs and Toyota 4-piston calipers, what backspacing will I need? Does anyone know if the Diamond Racing wheels will clear the calipers?

I will say this on a 71 240 that I had with MSA springs and the stock slotted wheels I had no fitment issues at all with the toyota 4 pot calipers on the "stock rotor".

I actually installed the toyata calipers when I had 14" wheels. They cleared by about 1/16". Upgraded to 16" right away. 15" should clear ok. With coilovers you can probably get away with about a +25mmoffset. Nothing beats measuring though. I'd measure at least twice and then try for a trial fit before ordering.

I won't be going coilovers for quite some time because I don't need the adjustability and doing it right would require the hardware from Ross C and then the labor to install and align again.

 

Mainly I just need to know what backspacing to get with the stock or tokico springs. I can tackle whether or not the calipers fit later on.

Measure it yourself. Put a floor jack under the lower control arm and jack the car up until the wheel is off the ground. Remove the wheel. Place a straight edge against the hub face and measure from the straight edge to the lower spring perch or the strut tube if your wheel/tire combo will fit below the stock lower spring perch. That's the most backspace your wheel/tire combo can have (- 1/8" for clearance).
