280Zone
Still trying to get the car street legal, so it gets towed to and from the shop on weekends. The last two times I have towed it home and got it parked in the driveway it decides to puke out about a quart or so of transmission fluid! I have checked for leaks and don't see any, we drive it around and beat the crap out of it at the shop with no problems, but the short trip home on the tow dolly seems to make it very sick. The car gets towed approx 6 miles in neutral.
BrandonsZ
Ouch, don't tow it with the rear wheels dragging without disconnecting the driveshaft. This is standard practice. Get a flatbed if you want to save the hassle, or drag the front wheels.
Sparks280zt
agreed, towing an automatic rear wheel drive car with the drive wheels on the ground turning is a big no no, even if its in neutral, do like Brandon said, either use a roll back or let the front wheels turn
80LS1T
I think if he left the car running it would be ok to tow like that. But towing with the engine off and in neutral is bad because there is no fluid circulation(atleast thats what I was told?) Guy
Sparks280zt
yea i think if you let it idle it should be ok
BrandonsZ
In my owner's manual for my auto transmission, it says "never backdrive the transmission, use a flat bed or lift the rear wheels when towing".
