Guest zspeed260
I was curious about the v8 swap. Are all of you that have done it totally happy with it? was the cost of the build worth it? I currently have two z's a 280 that is being set up with a stock high compression motor and the suspension to beat on porsches.... I also have a 260 that is just sitting...the interior is stripped and im debating on just pulling the motor and EVERYTHING from the engine compartment and doing a v8 swap. So i have two projects going but i would build the v8 slow. My 280 is almost my daily driver. Needs the clutch and the tranny from my 260. Another question i have is: How do your z's handle? do they handle just as well with the v8 in it? DO you guys change the IRS to a straight axle? ...I drove my brothers 03 cobra the other day and my GOD, i want torque..I had it on the freeway at 60 with TCS on and dropped it hard into third from 5th and the thing wanted to spin tires. That powershift made the traction control come on hard. That right there got me thinking about the conversion. One more thing, what is the average build time for the swap? Given you have some mechanic knowledge? Thanks for any info

Tim240z
All of these questions have been asked and answered a million times. No, you don't have to put in a solid axle. Handling is generally better (if you use lots of aluminum parts: Heads, intake etc) Build time is an unknown variable as lots of other things come into play (suspension, brakes, chassis stiffening, bodywork etc)....anywhere from 3 months to 14 years.
