I want a complete smooooth polished look. I have like 6-7 valve covers so messing one up isn't a big deal at all. Any recomendations??? Thanks. TheNeedForZ Posted October 15, 2005 Share Posted October 15, 2005 I don't know how it's called but there is a tool in machine shop that grinds flat surfaces. It's not a hand tool but sort of like a table. The thing to be grinded is magnetically mounted on a sliding table. The table controls movement in X,Y axis. The grinder controls the Z axis(vertical) I operated one such machine when I visited a factory in China. It can grind a beautifully flat surface. It removes materials way faster than the grinder I mentioned, but you have to finish the surface because the milling machine don't produce a shiny surface like the grinder does. Kennysgreen280zt Posted October 16, 2005 Share Posted October 16, 2005 you can get a nice finish with the right tool and spindle speed. You will have to sand on it any way to blend the edges in. On a side note, if you start grinding to take the spark plug wire holder things off, there isnt enough material to make them flush, the casting is pretty thin in that area.
