Guest innocentbystander
This is the plan, tell me if I've missed something and the whole idea is just too stupid to contemplate. the simple part.Z32(NA) diff mounted in 260Z, driveshaft shortening not a problem as I'm fitting a VVT 1JZ (single)turbo, and I'm shortening it anyway. To save a lot of screwing around, I want to cut the half shafts to length, and weld on 260Z uni's -outer end, keeping the CV s inner, and use standard 260Z hubs(brakesfor the time being) thereby getting a 4.08 LSD in reasonably cheap. Is this all this simple??? Anyone done something like this?? I have found nothing in search, and trying to put the whole cradle in is beyond me, time, money , experience ,and attention span wise. rp975
Hi, I am looking into fitting the diff and shortened axles from an R33 skyline into my project ( VQ30det 260z) if I can get the go ahead from my engineer. I hope to machine back the outside of the hub housing and weld in a new 12mm thick steel plate which will have the rear skyline hubs bolt onto, it would then need extra bracing welded on to support the hub housing and tie it to the strut tube. That is the plan at this stage, I have done some drawings and sent them to my engineer and will have to disguss it with him. The z32 has a very similar set up with the rear as the skylines, although going this way gives you the 5 stud wheel pattern.
260DET
Its better to go CV joints both ends, particularly with a more powerful engine. Try a search, there has been a lot of discussion on this type of conversion, there even is an outer adaptor available.
Guest innocentbystander
It's being built as a road car/ cruiser, not for track or mad road performance, the engine was overkill for what I want (couldn't resist it, better than an RB26 at half the price-and still in production)too old for the traffic light racer/hoon stuff.the weakness of the outer uni's won't worry me,as they will never be pushed to the edge, not concerned about 5stud hubs as I have 15x8 Simmons that are wide enough, and look OK . Really only want to know if the combination of z32 inners and 260 outer unis creates any weirdness in getting the power to the road. it just looks too easy, and inexpensive,(4cuts,2welds) and should be stronger than standard 260z, Search does not throw up anything this simple, mainly performance swaps. Can anyone see why it won't work?
