Kraker_Jax
Trying to get a damn spark from her. Using pin #36 it doesn't seem to be grounding the coil to get it to spark. Anyone have any suggestion?
mobythevan
Your running MSnS_Extra code?
Kraker_Jax
Yea, sorry, got a little hasty when I posted. I have a v3.0 board and I'm running Extra021u3 extra code with MegaTune mt225b358_021u3_setup. Trying to get a spark from it and it's not happening. Can anyone chime in to help please? Guest 73Turbo240z
http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=105230 sounds like ya'll are both having the same issue, where did you get your kit from?
boostin280zx
I have the same problem. I don't know if you have to set one of the outputs for spark output or what. Mine was making a constant ground always out of pin 36. I set LED 17 (LED closest to db9 on ms box) as spark output and it was getting the right signal. I jumpered pin 36 to the negative lead on that LED. It gets a good spark and starts right up. but haven't ran it long to see if the board gets hot. Kraker_Jax
I noticed that when I have power to the ecu it gets really hot also. Normal? I think I got it figured out, have to wait 'till tomorrow to find out though.
Guest 73Turbo240z
heat is resistance... and heat is the main killer of v2.2 boards... tread carefully w/ what ya'll do.
boostin280zx
My v3 board got hot fast when i plugged it up. It was because something wasn't soldered on good. check to see if you forgot to solder something all the way on.
Kraker_Jax
Can you show me what you mean boostin? It looks like everything is soldered up. You have one wire going along the back from the LED to 36?
mario_82_ZXT
I do beleive the IC's get warm/hot when in use.
boostin280zx
Yeah, it goes from IGN (pin 36) to the other side of the board to the LED d14. The negative lead is closest to db9. I don't know if it will hold up but i did crank my car up and it was hitting right at 10 deg. btdc when i checked it with a timing light. Well my v3 board burnt up today when i was trying to fix my injector problem. It is grounded out somewhere and couldn't every find it and then i fryed a couple of other thing when i accidently touched 2 wires together. Still shows alll the sensors and tach in megatune but does put out ign. or inj. signal anymore. Tired of hunting for the problem so I just ordered another v3 board and parts kit with a couple extra parts so i can try to have 2 working ecu's so i can have a backup . boostin280zx
Don't try to do the LED thing yet. I'm sure some1 with a v3pcb knows how to get spark out of pin36. Does anyone know what all the outputs are in megatune? You can set spark out to a bunch of stuff. Is one of them supposed to be set to let spark signal come out of pin 36? What is output 3? mobythevan
even though I haven't run a version 3 board, this post over on msefi.com stuck out at me. http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=12543 has anyone tried this board mod that James suggests to get spark working? Sometimes the directions are hard to follow but James knows what will work. I would ask him on the MSnS_extra forum if you guys still have troubles. mario_82_ZXT
The MSnS-E website (megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra) also has directions now posted on how to wire up the non-hei version to drive the coil. http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/setup-msns.html The IGBT circuit is considered a dumb module so MSnS-E must have dwell control turned on. If I had my car I'd be working on it as well..... Mario
Kraker_Jax
Well I finally got the middle LED to come on when MS get's power, but thing is, it always stays on. During cranking it doesn't flicker, nor does it seem to dim. When trying to set the timing, it doesn't turn off at all. It just stays on ALL the time. I'll check for spark, didn't have an extra person to help me out tonight. Anything else someone could help shine the light on what to do? Kraker_Jax
Does anyone know how to test the distributor to see if it's working correctly? Thinking maybe this may be the problem....
boostin280zx
My guess is as long as your getting a tach signal in ms from it then it works.
Kraker_Jax
Well actually, in MS I see no change on the 'tach gauge'. The middle LED stays on ALL the time. No matter if I turn the dizzy or not.
mobythevan
If your using an 82 or 83 dizzy you should still use the pullup resistor on the "tach" input to MS. Pin 36 which fires the coil is suppose to be able to fire the coil directly with no module, just hook to the coil and set dwell.
Kraker_Jax
What should the dwell be set at? Or where can I find out how I should set it up? Just a little lost.
