silicone boy
Can you beleive it? I just shortened my struts for coil overs (by the way, a tip, get the giant pipe cutter from Harbor Freight and forget the Sawzall, its big enough to cut the Alaska pipeline and it's cheap). Since I am a rotten welder, I was going to take them to a body shop but decided to stop in to a local Ricer speed shop, just to stir up some mischief. The owners are actually pretty cool guys and know their stuff-they've been featured in the national ricer mags. They said they would weld the struts for me. We talked about 12 second Hondas, and we both agreed that they are few and far between (but that they do exist). The conversation throughout the shop, however was less humble. The average age was about 17.5 (apologies to those teenagers on the board) and the average E.T. was around 12.9 secs. That's quite an accomplishment, especially with a rear wing that weighs around 150 pounds (again, would someone please tell me why a wrong wheel drive car needs downforce on the back--if someone knows how to make a FWD car oversteer, please let me know. I have an Improved Touring GTI that could use your help). Interesting crowd, those ricers. Have to admit they've done well with those 4 bangers, but as they say in my line of work (I'm a plastic surgeon specializing in breast surgery), there's no replacement for displacement . The sad thing is, most of these kids were more interested in PIAA fog lights and Momo shift knobs. I wonder if that's what gives them the 12 sec ET's? If so, maybe we should look into it. denny411
I also had a chance this week to talk with a "ricer". He claimed his civic would run 13`s, but couldn`t say how he got it to do it My guess is, he can`t tell the difference between his dreams and reality Later I talked to a guy at advance auto who is familiar with the ricer croud. His opinions mirrored mine. He said that he`s gotten into quite a few discussions with them about, "what if" someone were to take one of these little imports and put a v-8 in it "it would beat almost any 4 or 6 cyl" The responses have been "it can`t be done" or "it still wouldn`t beat my car" I told him that my car would be down here in a month or so and, when I get the sbc in it I`ll show `em what power is all about
Guest Anonymous
most of my car buddies could be put into the "ricer" category but for the most part they are very cool guys. although the age average for these guys is about 22. the funny thing is they always have their stuff polished up and glitzy then you see MY daily driver car sitting with them that hasn't been washed in over a month smellin kinda funky cause i have a leaky oil line to my turbo that hits the exhaust manifold creating a beutiful fragrance for everyone to enjoy. i have to say that the funniest part of all is the fact that most don't race me anymore, i think they got tired of losing actually theere are a few fast ones though one guy has a new prelude that can do a low 14 sec ET and that is with minimal mods to the motor. i've told them about my 360ZXTT project and there eye light up like chritmas lights. they say they can't wait to see it finished. now if only i could some how make a quick 10 grand i think it should be pretty quick after that. fl327
all there is in my town is the rockets, including me. i like to listen to them talk and i usually dont argue with any of them, i just agree and agree and smile. i always invite them to line them up with my 18 sec car just for kicks, since they should be all over me with their 12 second stock four cyls with intake and exhaust "modifications" most of my business comes from them, and ive learned to bite my tongue and just go along with them, customer is always right. they call my car a 1st gen 300zx, known around the town as "The Fairlady" KING OF IMPORT RACING!
