jgkurz
Hi Ford Fans, Normally I hang out with the L6 bunch but it's time to start thinking about a new project. When contemplating a V8 swap most folks go with the GM LSx engines. I, on the other hand, would like to do something different. I may change my mind, but I think I would like to try a 351 Windsor SBF with twin turbo’s. Dart makes a decent alum block but I’m still unsure about the cylinder heads. Maybe Edelbrock or Trick Flow. I may use a carbureted manifold converted to EFI or possibly a Trick Flow EFI setup. In the SBF crowd is the Trick Flow stuff considered quality or should I look elsewhere? Are there any turbo kit’s available for the Windsor engines? It would save me a ton of fabrication if I could get the turbo headers, down pipes and intake plumbing rather than to start fresh. Thanks! TomsCoupe
Trickflow makes a GREAT head. Ive heard a lot of people going from Trickflow to AFR's though. If you buy an aftermarket block, be prepaired for a LOT of machine work. There are a few turbo kits for SBF's out there http://turbochargedpower.com/ http://www.turbo-kits.com/mustang_turbo_kits.html http://www.cartech.net/fordturbo.htm http://www.proturbokits.com/ hope that helps. keeps us updated. bob88
look at turbomustangs.com They'l have a bunch of info on turbocharging windsor blocks And if you have enough money to build a TT system, you might as well go AFR instead of trickflow
jbk240z
Yo, you might want to check out this site, they have lots of low-budget turbo SBF stuff. http://www.toohighpsi.com Good Luck!
Scottie-GNZ
How fast are you looking to go? Do you want a TT setup just because it is different? If you are just looking for power, why not a 427ci stroker kit? Probably end up costing less than building a TT setup.
jgkurz
Scottie, I really don't have a horsepower goal in mind. I definitely want more low end torque than my L6. I also want to do something unique. I realize the cost for the project goes up substantially with turbo's but so does the horsepower and WOW factor. Plus I can't see myself being satisfied with just a N/A car these days. I figure I could get a streetable 450-500HP from a 427 stroker and 550-600HP if I go with twin turbo's. As was my goal with my L6, I want an engine that has street manners but with enough power to keep me entertained. The Dart alum block may be the part that I change to save cost. I'd like to to keep the setup as light as possible, but the initial expense and machining of an alum block may be a budget killer. I'm not a person who thinks I'm going to get 800HP and spend only 5K. Like SuperDan says... You can have it done:1. Fast 2. Cheap 3. Reliable. Pick any two. Scottie-GNZ
John, not trying to convince you one way or the other, but be aware of some of the other expenses of a TT setup that could make this an expensive venture. Things such as custom exhaust manifolds, downpipes, BOV(s) if not running an automatic, 2 turbos, I/C and plumbing, custom EFI intake/TB or carbureted setup, engine management system, etc, etc. etc. The above could easily add $4K-$5K to the cost. dr_hunt
Those guys at turbochargedpower.com kick some serious bootie. I saw Anthony Dickson's mustang run 8.15 at 175mph in Alb. and that was with a single turbo with 8000 feet density air!!! I also saw it on the chassis dyno when it maxed it out at over 1200rwhp! He left the dyno to take a buddy for a ride and came back with cops hot on his tail. Turned out it wasn't even registered or insured and he had "borrowed" a liscense plate from another car and slapped it on the mustang. You should have seen Anthony pleading for his life to the cop, while his wife was watching and laughing.
