Borrow Z, become spoiled

Not a racing story this time, but just an amusing comment my brother made. You may remember I posted he was putting the 302 roller motor in his ranchero. Well he finally got it dialed in (and its not broke in yet) and I was expecting all this crowing about how bad ass it was and all that.

Well I finally asked him, dude so hows it go. His reply, "Well its ok, it doesn't come on strong till 3000 rpms, yours is much more drivable than this is, yours has torque everywhere compared to this". I'm not getting a swelled head about that though, because the way my engines tuned (weak and stock), I'm not surprised, it has strong torque from 1500-4500 rpms (right where most people drive, so it gives the illusion of huge torque and drivability.)

I think the ranchero weighs more than I though too, so he may not be seeing the power to weight ratio of the Z despite having nearly 350 hp.

To be fair, I think he's limited the power on that roller quite a bit, he has cast manifolds (which stock are pretty dinky) and a 600 holley. He could use headers and a 750 carb and I'd bet he'd have a lot more power. The cam is a E303 which sounds pretty lumpy actually.

I just thought it was amusing, don't loan your HybridZ to people, they'll never be happy with what they're driving after that... :D

Funny you should mention this, I did this to myself. I haven't driven my '62 409 Impala for awhile. On Saturday I changed the plugs on the car and took it for a spin. I punched it through the gears and thought, what's wrong with this it feels so slow. I came home and took the Z out, and did the same thing, man what a difference! So much quicker, better handleing, and just easier to drive! There is nothing wrong with my Impala, I'm just used to a quicker car my 240Z! 2thumbs.gifhail.gif

Thats funny! I did the same thing the other day with my wifes car. Its an 01 Mustang Gt with a

exhaust/k &n. The car runs 14.30's so its not a

slug. But when I drove the stang right after the Z I could not believe the diffence in acceleration

from the 2 cars!Hers felt like it was towing a trailor or something!

Actually with a good intake (like a Performer RPM) and a 600cfm it would be much more torquey. The stock motor barely pulls 500CFM, so 750 is overkill for a small block. It actually winds up having LESS ower because it doesn't have the response a smaller carb would have. Stick to an Edelbrock 1405-1406 or a Holley 1860, something with 600cfm, otherwise you'll have drivability problems, bogging, and lower fuel mileage. It will still run good, just not AS good as it would with a 600.
