Guest el Jefe
I have been trying to get my damn transmission off (since 8 am, now 1 pm) of my RB25DET (R34), but it won't budge. I get it off about 3/8 of an inch and that's it. I don't want to pry it and jack up the metal gasket or the flywheel. I've tried puting it in gear, neutral and enganging the clutch (not easy). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Neil

Jiggle that a few times to see if it comes loose... OH YEAH! What about the shifter?
Guest el Jefe
Thanks for the quick response. You mean taking the shifter out? Yep, tried that. I am going to go a head and try turning the crank. If that doesn't work I will try prying it off little by little around the entire housing I will just have to buy a new gasket... Sometimes the shifter is still connected to the transmission, and when you pull the transmission back, it gets caught on the tunnel and it "seems stuck". Guest el Jefe
Hmm I am not sure what you mean. But, I have noticed that the clutch mechanisim moves when I try to pull it and if I pull the tranny back the clutch appears to move towards the engine (it's really just staying still. The little bar is moving.) What can I do? I can't get the darn thing more than half an inch and if I do it just slides right back.
RB26powered74zcar
Sounds like you have a "pull" type clutch... you need to take off the little rubber dust shields off the bellhousing and look inside with a flash light. There is a pin that holds all that assembly together, and you need to remove the cotter pin type thingie before you can slide out the pin, then it will allow you to seperate the trans/motor... I hope you can understand my lingo...
240Z_Master
Yeah, now that I think of it, the ER34 RB25DET Neo's might have that style clutch which would require a little further inspection on that.
Guest el Jefe
Thanks checking on it
Guest JAMIE T
I'm assuming the engine and trans is not in your car. The arm you speak of is the clutch fork. Try taking it out. I think I remember something about the R34 having a reverse pull type clutch or something. I'm sure I will get corrected if I'm wrong. Guest el Jefe
I do see what you all are talking about, but I have no clue how I am going to get the clutch fork (thanks, couldn't remember what it was called) out. There is no way I can get the cotter pin out and slide the pin out holding in the clutch fork. The opening is so small I can't get a slim pair of needle nose in and all the metal I have is too soft to pull it out. Once it's out I have no idea how I am going to slide the pin out so I can free the fork I won't be able to get anything in there to pop it up and out of the hole. Any tool/method suggestions?
