v80z
I am in the finishing stages of getting mine running. I have been reading alot tonight from Grumpy Dan Juday and PPARASKA and others about timing and whatnot. I have come across something I have a question about. Do I need a ballast resistor with a HEI setup? OH BTW I am rewiring from scratch. This is my first V8. Thanks Joe
fastzcars
No you don't need the resister. In fact you need a full 12 volts to the HEI unit. Cut that bad boy resiter out of there.
dead2me
No way jose... Ballast Resistors were only present to allow points to live longer by reducing the voltage to them down to around 9 volts or so... your HEI will not like that at all..... v80z
Thanks I did not have one on but thought I might. Now knowing the purpose of the resistor I see that the question reveals my true automotive prowess. DOH!
dead2me
can't know all of the answers, and we wouldn't need this site if we all did.....
