Guest shadowmaster05
I have a 1984 300ZX and i think i messed the vaulves up in it.. so i am looking at getting a new engine for it, either a VG30DET or VG30DETT, but i was wondering if the stock rear end would be able to handle the xtra torque and hp. and if they cant should i switch over to a TT rear end or a newer one completely? alas since i am deployed and raking in the dough should i just drop a RB26 with a RB25 tranny in it? i need some ideas and some prices.. if you can help me out hit me back at my other email. its christopher.wilson@centaf.af.mil thanks, Chris
260DET
Can't answer all your questions but definately keep the V6, preferably a VG30DET with perhaps a new GT35R turbo. With that combo you probably will need the later Z31 turbo 5 stud rear end.
mtcookson
For the tranny, i'd swap in either a 1987-1989 300ZX Turbo transmission or a 1990-1996 300ZX transmission. They are basically the same gearbox. The Z32 trannies are said to handle 600 hp no problem so they should work for what you want. If you go with a VG30DETT clutch setup be sure to get the tranny from the Z32 Twin Turbo as the start mounting spot is slightly different than the N/A Z32. It has slightly more material on that spot due to the larger clutch and flywheel setup. (240 mm N/A vs. 250 mm TT)
