zliminator
I'm trying to locate a fluid leak on my z project and with the v8 all the way to the firewall there's not much room. I noticed the housing where the dipstick goes into the pan turns. Its really hard to turn it and when I do, the braided tube starts to warp. I'm wondering if it supposed to turn or be tight. Thanks. ezzzzzzz
It is a press fit typically. I think my 4L60E actually has an o-ring seal but I'd have to look. What fluid is leaking? Which engine do you have? I recall a SBC that had a small oil leak where the engine shop had installed a freeze plug into a NPT hole for the oil galley. The mechanic had no respect for me until I cured his mystery leak...
zliminator
I went out and bought a 1" open end wrench and it seems to keep turning. I did tighten up the bolts to the pan. I hope that's it. The picture of it can be seen at http://www.hampleman.com/trans.htm. I'm pretty sure its trans fluid and not motor oil. Thanks. skipzoomie
The dip stick tube fits into a rubber bushing and it will turn as there are no threads. It's not a big deal to replace it.
