JustinOlson
I'm looking at swaping a 472 cad engine into my Z. Has anyone around here done this swap? Seems like it would be a beast with the right cylinder heads and such. From what I can tell this is the perfect swap for me since I'm looking at build primarily a drag car on the cheap. The frony mount distributor will also help push the engine back so weight distribution isn't terrible. Regards, Justin
John Scott
What caught me in your post was cheap. I would go with the engines that are popular, have a big aftermarket following.... like a chevy or ford. Check what Summit or Jegs carries for 99% of the magazine. Looking for performance parts on an obscure engine can be tough. There are some Cad sites that cater to these old beasts, but I bet they are more expensive than the tried and true. The old way of hp rating 365/535 hp and tq ratings dipped to 285/385 when they converted to net hp and tq. Big cubic inches don't always equate into high horsepower. Looking to be different? Don't let anyone stop your passion, but IMO a more common engine will be $$ and horsepower ahead. John
Bartman
Take a look at this thread http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101463
John Scott
Thanks Bartman, always good to see the other side, especially with a Grumpy recommendation. Wonder how they compare $$ for $$ for horsepower?
Z-Dreamer
A used 472-500 Cadillac can be purchased dirt cheap and with a few bolt-ons can make 500hp & 600ftlbs. Don't believe me? checkout http://www.cowboyseven.us/forum/ p.s. You can also spend a ton of money if you want more! Mark
