VG30E non turbo swap into 70's Z car

Sorry forgot the motor I have and that the supercharger that is being made is for a VG30I.

There is a company comming out with a Supercharger for the VG30I and I got a good Idea to buy an old Z car and swap it into there with a 5speed tranny. I think it should fit well, I have looked at some of the turbo VG30 swaps, but I am not a big fan of turbo.

any info on anyone who has done a swap like this or anyone that knows of any kits would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Mike

Looking at a 280Z, a VG30ET, and ZR8TD's website, I think the problem is that fitting a (fairly wide) VG30ET into a 240-260-280 requires a large shoehorn, a custom steering column (to clear the turbo itself) and a lot of space.

The VG30ET intake plenum and exhaust manifold both extend significantly past the rear face of the block, and the turbo comes down on the driver's side to where it impinges on the frame and steering column.

A more "forward" plenum, like a Maxima or Pathfinder use, might help with the interference around the hood latch, but it would require custom manifolds (bringing the turbo forward and crossing over in front of the engine; or, a twin turbo with turbos in front of the engine).

That's a LOT of modification.

Using a supercharger would allow you to simply use headers. This allows the block to sit a little further back (possibly, not sure how the supercharger will sit compared to the stock intake manifold on the VG30ET). I'm guessing hood clearance won't be a problem as it will likely have a scoop or cowl induction or something to make space. The latch may or may not survive but there are many Z's with hood pins out there.

From what I can see, it will still be a tight squeeze and a remote oil filter will be a must (I think the oil filter will be up against the frame rail from the looks of it). Check out ZR8TD's recent post on putting a VG30ET into a 280Z for some more notes.

That's a LOT of modification.

I wouldn't consider custom manifolds a lot of modification compared to making a supercharger setup work. I know someone makes a kit for it (in australia i believe) and as mentioned in the first post there's a kit being made but if it were a custom setup there would be a lot more modification required. I'm sure there would still be quite a bit of modification to make the setup work.

Not to mention it would likely be more expensive and would likely never have the power potential of a turbo VG unless it were a screws style s/c (whipple, lysholm, etc.) making it very, very expensive.

sorry I decided to get a 620 and swap a pathy VG30i with the supercharger on it. I am going to custom build the motor to handle about 10-15lbs of boost. Should provide about 300-350 HP, not bad for a little V6. the truck will have airbags on it, so I will just build everything from scratch. If anyone has knowledge of any 620's with VG30 motor in them, I would greatly appreciate pictures.

Thanks,

Mike

Oh and the S/C kit uses an Eaton M90 S/C. I just dont like turbochargers, seen to many people make mistake with the setup and blown their engine very fast.
