miloZ
Hello. this is my first V-8 240z swap and all is going well. I am at the driveshaft/rear end part of the project. I am looking at 400+ hp & torque and wonder if my stock r180 can handle it.? I have yet to order my adapter flange so if it is wise to install a r200 I'll do that first. It is my understanding that they both have different sized pilot. Thanks.
fastzcars
It might be a good idea, 400 ft/lbs is probably the upper limit of the R180. but it depends on how your going to drive it. Like on drag strip lauches and drag radial tires that have grip. And if you have a manuel of auto for a trans. Auto's are ususally easier on drivelines. The pilot bolt pattern's are different on the 2 diffs. If you do go the R200 route don't forget to get the mustach bar and halfshafts, as well as the drive shaft( for the rear yoke of the driveshaft) to do the conversion. miloZ
Thanks, which gear ratio would u suggest? 3.7, 3.54, or 3.9? I am running a T5 and thought that with the high torque, I would go with the higher gear ratio (3.54) or so I have it backwards?
Guest zfan
My 240Z with a 300 rwhp 300 rwTq 350 sbc and 700r4 made mince meat of a 3.54 r180 rear end. It made one pass at the local 1/4 mile track and went boom! Mike
jaime240z
At minimum I would say to upgrade to a 280z R-200. If you're interested I have a brand new driveshaft adapter I purchased from JTR. I won't be using it since I have a Q diff now. I'm in the bay area, maybe we could meet up.
miloZ
yea, I'm interested. I was just about to buy one just not till I had determined the rear end I'd be using. send me and e-mail sac98405@saclink.csus.edu
COZY Z COLE
Swing by FAIRFIELD and you can have the R-200 I pulled from my 75 280Z and anything else that we took off for my R-230 conv. I also have some 72 240Z parts that I'm not going to use from my new project. This is all at no cost...... LARRY

Go for the gold, save a few more pennies and get that thing out the garage! Scott
