MIBPreacher
I was encouraged to get the codes off my Z, so I pulled the passenger side cover off the ECU and I dont see any lights or what not. Am I looking in the right place? 1987 300zx NA 2+2 Ttops Automatic Thanks Rick
lifegrddude
Should be a light on the side of the ecu that flashes when the car is running. You'll have to unbolt the ecu to make it easier to see. There should be a green light that flashes and a red one will flash if something is wrong, giving you the error code in conjunction with the green light. MIBPreacher
I found the section in my manual that shows how to check the codes, didnt realize i had to unbolt it. I unbolted the ECU and pulled it out, I turned on my Ignition and I saw the following flashes (if I remember correctly) 1 flash together (red and green) 1 red 4 green (the speed sensor circuit is open) 2 flash together (red and green) 2 red 3 green fast (idle switch signal circuit is open) 4 red 3 green fast (throttle sensor circuit is open) 4 flash together 5 flash together then it starts all over again. I erased the codes by pulling the negative cable for a couple of seconds, I plan on checking the codes again tomorrow to see if they are still there now that I have driven it to work and back. What do you all think about the codes?
Guest crowbar
You have to be in mode 3 to get codes for the 87-89 ecus. It allows you to select the mode by changing the rotary pot. You seem to describe it just cycling through the modes. When it cylces so that red-green flash together 3 times (mode3) turn the pot with a small screwdriver. Then record the codes down.
