  1. 1988 GL model 300ZX. Heat selector on cold = watercock pulled in. Heat selector on warm (middle) = water cock full out. Heat selector on hot = watercock full out. Cold sucks it in, Hot lets it out. Only defrost works, no matter which vent is chosen. When fan is on low position, fan is off. When fan is on off its at the low speed. When fan is moved from low to high, fan speed gets faster. and like I said, hot or cold, all I get is heat, yet the water cock goes up and down so you would think the water would not be able to go through the heater core, and it doesnt look like I have a bypassed water cock. Any clue?
  2. Havent posted in a while but check out www.evsource.com they have a step by step process of converting a 200sx to electic. He had a special bell housing made and used an adapter to hook up the fly wheel to the Electric motor and could still clutch properly. I emailed him to see how much his bellhousing cost. I read through it an came up with a rough estimate for the parts list. I have a NA Z31 that i wouldnt mind doing this to. 3. I have a taurus fan installed and I have a problem where when the car is ran down the interstate, the idle completely drops out and car stalls. I think the problem is related to heat soaking and I am wondering if any one knew of any part that could cause this? I am thinking of doing some creative shrouding with sheet metal to prevent air from hitting the top part of the engine. Just looking for peoples 2 cents. I ve replaced alot of parts and still have the same problem. Thanks Ive a lot of updated info on my cardomain site, http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2272864/1 -Rick
  4. I dont recollect there being a spotted thread so I thought I would start one. Today while I was waiting in the wendy's drivethru, I spotted a gray 1983 280ZX driving in the parking lot of Hooters. I pulled out of line and drove closer to where he parked and I got to take a first hand look at the straight 6. Looked real nice, had a recent paintjob, 2+2 model, automatic non turbo and rims that looked like the british cross? Anyways, I gave his some websites but I gave him first the HybridZ.org site address. He said he would take a look. Pretty cool to see another Zcar in my neck of the woods. -Rick
  5. Could be a rainbow...or it could be a gay pride event being organized...I dunno
  6. This is what I suggest, I hope it helps. Take a camera and take good pictures of the area that was being worked on. Take a far away shot to show no signs posted, Take a closer shot to show the turn you were about to take, take another shot to show the bump you hit and come to court with your parents or atleast your dad. Your father's presence will do more for you then an affidavit, the pictures, taken in the broad daylight, being shown to the judge and then ask him to consider this happened at night and how you were trying to turn around and head back after hearing problems on your car. Point out with respect that the officer gave you a ticket while it was dark regarding an action that must be seen. All he could have saw was the quick bump in the light flow from your headlights. If the bump wasnt marked with a sign how could you expect to avoid it. All ways use Yes Sir, or Yes Ma'am or No Sir, or No Ma'am. Get a respectable haircut. Put your church clothes on your Mom bought you last year. Make sure you shaved. Dont say the officer is lying, just show reasonable doubt that he could be mistaken since he thought you were someone else from Newark. Respect will get you far. All that together and you should win.
  7. Nissan released "The Z concept" in 99 and I have been looking for pictures for yall, here is what I have found so far. and a larger one...
  8. www.askdrZ.com Why on earth did Nissan allow this, to me when I see that I always say, He didnt make the Z. oh well. This is from the Chrysler tv ads and the german expert.
  9. I had checked the tranny fluid level just prior to coming to work. I saw I was low so I topped it off. then all this happened. Then to top it off, I went out on my break and I cant even idle my car again. It idles at 400 and then dies, it wont go higher than that either. I think my MAF is out as I had just moved my cone filter and mounted it directly to the MAF to get it out of the way of the heat from my taurus fan, and I think it overheated it or something. I am going to unplug the MAF and see if I can limp it home tonight at 15mph. We'll see.
  10. If there is anyone in the Chicago area that has an extra automatic tranny laying around that would be willing to donate it to clear up space, please let me know, I am getting a severe grinding sound while trying to engage gears 2 and D. I can drive it in 1st or D but only up to 15mph so it is going to take me about an hour to drive home tonight from work. I have no extra money and have a child due next month. Sad is that I was in the middle of trying to gather parts for the 5spd swap and this happens. Thank you for reading. Rick T i t a n i u m _ C l a w (at) h o t m a i l (dot) c o m
  11. I am having difficulty with the site at work and I think its WINS/DNS related. Can someone ping 3ZC for me and give me the ip address they get? Thanks, Rick
  12. I have searched through the posts regarding "TDC", and most people kept talking about putting a wire in the spark plug #1 or putting their finger over the hole but they werent talking about the VG30E where you can barely see the holes yet alone touch them. Can someone give me a tip on how to set my Z on TDC? I think I put my distributor on a tooth or more off, step by step instructions would be great. I tried looking in the FSM but I didnt see anything about how to accomplish this. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. -Rick Want to know something funny, I spoke with my Mother in-law and she now tells me that she would love to have a blue 350Z, and i guess my wife forgot to tell her I drive a 300ZX, and she tells me that my wifes brother used to drive a datsun that "talked" about the door being "a jar"and how he broke a axle shaft on it, and how my wifes other brother is currently looking at a 06 silver 350Z. Wow, I knew there was something special about that family. It looks like my kids were born with it in their genetics. Genetically predispositioned to Z's. Lol, I even found a red 260Z sitting in a Ufixit lot for sale, next time i am at PicknPull, I am going to ask about it.
  13. I think my timing is wrong, does anyone know how to adjust the timing without a timing light? When I put my distributer back in, I tried to make sure it was in the same spot, initially it wasnt because it wouldnt kick in, but I could tell now it was trying. After fiddling with it somemore, engine started right up and ran smooth. It idled kind of low about 750 in Neutral, and in D, it was about the same, I am used to about 1200 and when I put it in drive, it would drop down to 800. I chalked this up to the timing being changed... Then madness happened... I was driving down the road, went to stop at the light and the rpms just dropped. It would kick over but the rps were almost at the floor. I gave it some gas and it didnt affect it at all. I ended up pulling into Speedway and spent 5 minutes adjusting the TPS and after severe bogging, I was able to rev it up, I put it in D and raced home as fast as I could. I couldnt maintain idle at all if I didnt keep the gas pedal down while braking for stops and shifting in Neutral. So much for happy happy joy time. When you take the upper timing cover off, is the pulleys on top, do they fluctuate in and out about 1/4" while the engine is running? I noticed that when at 200rpm, I heard tapping in the timing cover so I took it off and started it back up and saw under low RPM's the belt near the FPR was vibrating. Once again, please someone read this and offer up some wisdom...
  14. Can you take the pic in my sig and change the paint job color from light gold to real gloss 24k gold?
  15. Tom, that is so not the color in the picture you originally posted. Are you sure you told them you wanted that exact color and you showed them the color chip? Did you already fully pay the ticket or did you have to leave some sort of a deposit? Read the fine print on your contract. The large print giveth, the small print taketh away. IMO, which is just an opinion, dont let them stick this with you, its there fault for not painting your car right. This is definitely a learning experience for me, I now know that when ever I get my car painted, I want to see a test spot so I can judge the final color.
