Nissan-Fan
Ok, i want to get a few questions out at once, so here goes I have a 1978 Datsun 280z, and i am just finishing up boxing the rails and painting it, coating the underbody. I have been trying to get an L28et for quite a while now but no dice, they are not common in Calgary. Si i have decided to pull my motor, and while its out blast my engine bay, paint it as well, replace all the body electricals and bend a custom fuel system for the car, as well as add a fuel Cell. Now, from NWME i can get an L28 engine rebuild kit (Gaskets, Pistons, Rings, Bearings, Seals ect, ect) for under $500 Canadian, so i was wanting to know if its a solid idea to do a complete tear down and rebuild of my L28, get new injectors, a fuel rail, a 3" exhaust system, and some other mild bolt ons, including a ported and cleaned up intake manifold, and a bigger TB. In a short time i want to Turbocharge this motor, i think with the rebuild kit it will be more than strong enough to take about 10psi of boost, but i want to know if the Turbo exhaust manifold will bolt to the head, and how well my ported/polished head will react with boost. Also, i relize i would havto run a stand alone system, thats not a problem because i can get a good discount on one from my local parts store, has anyone run stand alone on there turboed L28? Thanks for reading the post, if you have any suggestions for me, i would appreciate the help.
dj paul
thats a good price for that rebuild kit. thing is you more than likely only need the gaskets and the rings, but for that price i prob would just go ahead and do it. check out megasquirt for the standalone. thats what most of us run here. does the same thing and is way cheaper than the others. www.diyautotune.com sells them prebuilt and kits. personally, i think an l28 with a turbo will do better than l28et because it will have better bottem end power i have an l28 flat top with a rebuild turbo cylinder head ported and polished will help a lot. for the turbo you could just get a stock one but i would spend a little more and at least get a t3/t4. with standalone you could prob go a little more than 20 or so.
