Guest ModToad
Just some random updates of my build. I wish they were more detailed, but a friend came by to take them for me, and didn't really know what to shoot. It's eventually going to be 1/2 Cougar 1/2 300ZX (Cougar tail lights, interior, etc) That's a genuine 302 Windsor 289 with C6 auto

Trevor
Have you figured out where you are putting to put the radiator / coolant filler cap? On the 300ZX, the filler's on the VG engine, just on top of the thermostat, & there isn't a cap on the stock radiator - sits low in the grille and is tilted and an angle. I was thinking about something in-line with the upper radiator hose, or modifying a Fiero water vertical pipe part.
Guest ModToad
I'm sort of undecided on the rad right now. The stock Z31 rad is garbage. Well, this one in particular. When I touched it, most of the core disintegrated. With the AC condensor out of the way, I slipped an S12 200sx rad into place. It's a good fit, but a few inches shorter than the stock one. With the additional space, it looks like with custom brackets, it will sit with enough clearance. It has an external reservoir/puke tank so I'll just put that in the engine bay to fill, rather than have to try and fill through the cap. The other option is a race rad I have. It doesn't even have a rad cap. It's set up like modern Volvos. You just run a filler in the line somewhere. Sorry about the pics. My friend just dropped by my shop while I wasn't there and snapped some pics. He emailed them to me, and I posted them up. The mounts were silly easy. All I did was use the stock 289 upper mount (the portion that mounts to the block) cut a piece of heavy angle iron and welded it to the upper mount. Then I drilled a hole in the angle iron in the center. This hole matches up to the single 14mm bolt that holds the lower mount to the Z31s K-member. For the tranny mount, all I did was reuse the stock C6 rubber mount. It has two bolts that point down. I had a 200SX transmission cross member (just the metal part), which bolts up to the existing tapped holes in the Z's frame. Then all I needed to do was mark the mount according to where the C6s mount bolts line up. Drilled the marks out, and the whole thing bolts together like Nissan meant it to. You will need a later model 302 oil pan though. The stock 289 is a deep front sump and interferes like nuts on the cross member. I'll try and bring a camera with me tonight. Not that you can see it in the pics, but to the left of the car is an R32 Skyline, to the right, S14 Silvia (under the tarp) and a 74 Challenger next to it. They all need work too, so the Z31 is moving slowly. Just installed a Lunati/voodoo cam and lifter set up last night though, so should be ready to fire within a week or so. Alf
for my chevy v8 swap in my z31 i got a new replacement radiator that was a dual core, it was only $130 with tax. then i mounted a 15" electric fan because there was no room for an engine driven fan. i built an air damm too for extra insurance. it cools good.
