Guest Jim226
Hi everyone, I have a question about which intake manifold to use on my 74' 260z. My question is actually going to be a 2 part one. First i have an early 260z intake manifild without all the smog emissions, and i also have some 3 screw round tops. Now my plan is to lose all the smog junk and i just don't know if i should use my current 260z intake manifold or the earlier one, What is an easier swap has anyone done something like this b4??? what is involved in losing the smog equipment ??? i also have an AC unit i'm losing is there any plumbing that needs blocked off any help would be great
AK-Z
Not knowing carb systems that well, I can only recall what I've read. If I remember correctly the 260z was the poorest performing model stock because of all the smog equipment. The round top SUs will bump performence considerably from stock IMO. Guest Jim226
I know that going from the flat tops to the round tops will increase my performance. But my question is should i use the N36 manifold or the early E88 with the round top SU's I read somewhere that you would have to plug alot of the holes that would be left open on the N36. and i know that once i lose all the smog stuff there is going to be some open areas where tubing once went too??? The things i would like to lose i i said earlier are the AC,carbon canister, etc. Has anyone done this??? what are all the smog parts that i would need to get rid of. my big problem is not know which intake manifold to use? Guest kylerichardbutler
I have a 260 and I can tell you that everything is gone on my Z. I have the E88 manifold and there is still things you will have to block off.
Mack
you want to use the N36 260Z manifold with the 240Z balance tube. most (if not all) of the air pollution crap is attached to the balance tube. it comes off of the manifold with 4 bolts. 2 on each manifold. the N36 is reported to give a 10HP increase over the earlier E88 and N33 manifolds. I have a feeling thats BS, but it cant hurt to use it, especially if you have both at your disposal.
green260z
I use the N36 260Z manifold with the 240Z balance tube it looks a lot cleaner. I also removed my canister, smog pump and all smog equip. possible including cat. It looks a lot cleaner, my 260z never had a/c so I do not know what to plug for that. MatMan
I just took all the A/C out of my 240. It was a self-contained, or separate unit. It's not difficult at all and will shed you about 30 lbs. Unbolt the bracket that the compressor is bolted to (connected to the block); undo the fan belt; remove the hoses and canister; remove the heat exchanger in front of the radiator and the condenser under the dash; and remove the fan/power switch under the steering wheel. You may wish to plug the holes in the firewall where the hoses ran, as well.
JMortensen
the N36 is reported to give a 10HP increase over the earlier E88 and N33 manifolds. I have a feeling thats BS, but it cant hurt to use it, especially if you have both at your disposal. The idea that the N36 gives a more equal fuel distribution to the cylinders has been backed up by katman and Norm in a previous thread... good enough for me. Guest Jim226
Well thanks everyone for the help. I'm going to go with the n36 manifold and i'll put the E88 bal. tube on and see how that works. When i use the 3 screw su's with the N36 can i still use the same insulator blocks or do i need to get different ones???
Mack
sorry, didnt mean to say that the N36 intake wouldnt perform better, just meant to say that a 10HP jump is BS, maybe 5 or so. but not 10, unless its a race motor or ITS or something. I think you should be able to use stock insulator blocks, as I beleive all of the insulator blocks are the same. not too sure tho. just a hunch. Im sure someone on here knows.
