Guest Anonymous
What toyota truck do I say I have to get brake pads? My new Z already has toyota calipers! I notice in the write-up here that there are 2 different looking toyota calipers... do they both use the same pad? Good pad reccomendations or just the usual performance friction or metal master pads? Is there a difference between the 2 toyota calipers? Mine has the smaller looking ones without the cast ridges on them(Cooling? stiffening? what are they for?). ------------------ Morgan morgan@z31.com http://carfiche.com http://z31.com
Drax240z
Hey Morgan. I purchased 1983 toyota 4x4 calipers for my last Z and they bolted right on. Casting number on them was S12 if I remember correctly. I believe the wider calipers come off a 1988 V6 4x4, and have the casting number S12W. Quite a few people here have expressed their like for KVR pads, which is what I am going with next. I think they offer the 83 toyota ones too... Good luck. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
Guest scca
there are 2 calipers and 2 pads. truck and forunner. the pads are interchangeable but the truck pad is thicker than the 4runner pad. you can put either pad into either caliper but if you have NEW unturned rotors then the thicker pad may not fit. i found this once when i used new rotors with new calipers and new pads and they ALMOST fit. if the rotors were used they would have ------------------ Mike http://www.fonebooth.com raceparts and brakeupgrades
Mikelly
Actually that isn't correct. Mine came out of the Toyota V6 4x4 TRUCK which is larger in size than the 4 cylinder unit. Had both in my hands with pads and you could notice a big difference. I think I have a picture of all of the pads laid out on my creaper... I'll check and see if I can post them here... Guest scca
i was talking only about V6 ones. if you include the 4 cyl and the non vented they are likely 4-6 caliper designs....... IMO the non vented toyota upgrade is a waste of $$ and just adds more weight, what i was trying to get across is that between the v6 4x4 and v6 4runner the calipers are actually different and the pads are as well - with new rotors one of the combinations will NOT fit. ------------------ Mike http://www.fonebooth.com raceparts and brakeupgrades
Mikelly
Sorry Mike, My bad. I misread the post... YOu are absolutely correct on the swap from non vented to vented rotors. If you can't get a vented rotor under that wheel, don't bother looking at the caliper!
