Anyone moved the window frame from the door to the body?

I have this tendency to bash my head and arms on the chrome window frame on the doors on my '72, or any other car that has them. I loved my z31 with the doors without the frame/slides on them (except for the leaks, but that's another story).

So, has anyone modified their body to allow this? I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to get it to work, just hard to make it look good.

I am not sure this can be easily done... If you are using the open seal like most topless windows, the glass has to be rigid, even at the fully extended, closed position. On the S30, the glass is at its least rigid state fully extended, as it relies on the frame to keep it in position. I havent opened a Z door up in a long time, but I think you would need to find a way to make a track from top to bottom on both sides of the glass, inside the door, to limit or eliminate it's play. Cool idea for sure... maybe with some thought and interactive problem-solving, we could add another popular mod to the database. = )

dont waste your time.. cars with doors without window frames that move with the car are usualy a lot more loud and the windows suck out at high speeds. you would have to do mucho modifying, and unless you are really that bored, you shouldnt do it, come help me weld up my car if you have that much time haha
