EZ-E
Well now with over 200k on the clock the digital dash never has given me a problem till today. I got in started the car, and left it now worries as usuall, letting it warm up, then hop in, buckle up and take off. I then look down at my gauge cluster to see absolutely NOTHING!!. I was like well ok, whats going on here. Well, it was getting that time so I turn the parking lights on and everything comes up like I just started the car! Working perfectly. Well turn them off and everything goes back off. I cannot understand and as I was doing this while rolling it was just like I had started the car, then the gauges all catch up. It will work fine as long as at least the parking lights are on, but not on theyre own. All connections are good and clean, I dont know what to think. I have searched and havent found any problem as this. Anyone here have any hypothothis as to what might be the problem. Confused!
MIBPreacher
I know on the 300zx's that have the digital dash that have problems, its due to the external power supply going bad. You might want to see if you have one of these in your dash?
naviathan
EZ-E, did you ever figure this one out? I just did a digital swap into my 81 and it's doing the same thing.

naviathan
The 280ZX doesn't have an external power supply though. It pulls from a switched hot off the ignition, but I don't what wire code carries that current into the back of the panel to trace it down.
