HarrisonTX
I want to run A/C after i do my swap. The jtr book covered this in about half a page, and i didnt really get anything from it. What does it take to run a/c? do i just install a chevy compressor, and run custom lines? is that all there is to it? Thanks guys.
getZ
There's a few guys running the vintage air stuff on this forum and several write ups about their installation. That's probably the way I'm going to go one of these days....after I get my car through emissions.
331CI 280z
I'm running AC. Custom bracketry is required. It sits on the lower LH of the motor on mine, where a typical chevy power steering pump would be.
Phantom
I have AC using the original Datsun, evaporator, condenser, expansion valve and drier. The compressor is a mini unit mounted high on the drivers side of my LS1 - where the power steering pump used to be. The rest is the custom hoses to hook it all together. I'm also running R12 rather than 134 as it works better with the stock componenets. Freeze 12 is a good alternative that has the R12 characteristics but is relatively inexpensive. HarrisonTX
thanks for the input. Do you run P/S now? if so, where is it at? I dont even know if my datsun had power steering or not, so, that question maybe made me sound like a moron. Thats probably the hardest part of being in Iraq, i cant just run out to the z whenever i want.
spotfitz
I dont even know if my datsun had power steering or not. Your '74 260 should not have power steering unless the previous owner installed the pump from a ZX and found a rack that would work from another car. I actually need to upload some new ones. Those pics in my sig are about a year old now. (damn, has it been that long?) I've been spending ALL my time in the garage the last couple weeks. I'm trying to get her back together for the convention at the end of May. When are you coming back? I'm sure we can hook up. I'm about 4 blocks from Rufe Snow and HWY10. If you want to swing by and take a look sometime PM me. My step son will be back for a month from airborne training at Fort Briggs in June. As for someone with a tranny, can't think of anyone I know. BTW, I have a pretty good hook up for a/c parts. I had them custom make a new evaporator for my '74 and they did an excellent job at a decent price. HarrisonTX
I think i will get my R&R leave in june, which is about 2 weeks. They wont tell us when we redeploy to the states, i have heard anywhere from september-december, most likely around thanksgiving. My mothers house is in benbrook, im there on the weekends, i live in fort hood, and my fathers shop where the datsun is, is on mansfield HWY/287, about 4 miles from the 1/8mile track in k-dale. I would love to see that car, the only other one i have seen is phantoms, and a silverone that does some mean street racing. Cool man, i look forward to it
Lewis Maudlin
I ran air conditioning on mine. It worked fine. I ran all Datsun original equipment and hooked up a Chevy compressor. I think it was mounted on top left side of the motor. The only custom parts were the lines. It worked fine. It would have pumped more air with a Honda blower motor. The air was cold, but the Datsun fan was small for a black car on summer days. Once it cooled off, it was fine.
