colerongo
Does anyone know how to install the Type III body kit? i have the front airdam and sideskirts but don't know how to do it. I want to do it myself but don't have experience with body work. do i use rivets to attach them? where do i put the rivets/ screws so you can't see them? how do i re-enforce it so that the bondo used to smooth the edges doesn't crack from high speed flexing? any help would be great. riverz
Here is what I did not saying it is right. The front comes with mounting tabs. I used four stainless steel screws and lock nuts on each mount tab. For the sides used four countersunk stainless metal screws on each door sill On the area in front and behind the doors I used two countersunk stainless screws and lock nuts. The best way to get the hole for the srcew right is to buy a countersink tool. But you can also you a drill the same size as the head of the screw and run it backwards. Good luck mine took me a while required a lot if fitting and trimming. Just rember to measure twice and cut once. Jason
2003z
I used 2 bolts and nuts on each side of the airdam. On my last Z, I had the type 2 skirts and I countersunk the screws and then fiberglassed over them, and also filled the seams with fiberglass/bondo. colerongo
riverz, mine did not come with any mounting tabs. i guess i will have to call msa and get some. i have another question though. i have bigger than stock tires and they seem to rub on the airdam. can i trim away where it rubs? how do i deal with that issue? colerongo
oh, never mind. the mounting tabs are built into the airdam. i see now. do i have to do anything else to the holes (washers, etc...) that i drill into the tabs to protect them from cracking or breaking? or is the fiberglass strong enough? did you attach the bottom of the airdam to the car with a piece of sheet metal like others have done to keep it from flexing at high speeds? thanks for the help. I did to clear my tires also. I didn't add anything to the bottom to deal with airflow or flex, but it holds up fine on the racetrack. this thing isn't going to flex. its the thinner ones, or the urethane ones that flex.
