Guest lukes280
I havent been a very active poster lately, but ive definately used this website to help guide me on my swap more than anything else. Everything is in the forums somewhere.. my freshly rebuilt chevy 355(bored .030) can now start. it has an edelbrock carb and intake manifold. my car is a 280zx 1979. The only things left: tranny cooling lines, fabing up a bracket for the throttle cable, and I need to take it to an exhaust shop, which reminds me, what kind of system should i use? would a single 3 after the y pipe be adequate?(suggestions) The reason being is i want to attrack as little attention as possible. After that i just need to do the tons of little tweaking nessessary for drivability. Future plans might include a 75-100 shot of nos, new tires and rims for sure, stiffer 1" drop springs, and the list will go on. Ill keep you all updated as to the "355zx" project. -Luke-

The 3" will be adequate (but not THE best) for your setup. I can't advise you how to make it quiet. I run a single 2 1/2 pipe on my 383(!!!) with 1 1/2" headers and it will pull nicely to 6k. I'm about to get 1 5/8 headers and some sort of dual exhaust because I like how the thing runs now so I can only imagine what it will do if it can breathe. I assume you know that when you lower the car you make the geometry of the halfshafts worse. Add some nitrous and you're asking for trouble. MAXIMUS
Hey Luke, how did you get the header around the steering box on the driver's side?
Guest lukes280
I took it on my first drive tonight. It sounded badass with just the headers(which is discussed below). It blew constant flames, and then it overheated fairly bad because the fan wasnt on. All in all, a very successful time:mrgreen: . I used a truck style header and flipped it upside-down(exhaust points up and forward). Im going to have custom exhaust work to curve the pipes infront of the engine and then they will go underneath and back. I also had to do a little modding to the box (grinder)and a ballpeen hammer to the header(just a lil). Still debateing whether or not to install my power rack and pinion and change the exhaust. I believe that the first way mentioned probably isnt a very good idea because of the closeness to the box. This is a pain in the neck. Damn zx steering box. -Luke-
80LS1T
Here's my custom header. Its not an even flow design but its better than a manifold. Its jet hot coated now so it looks nice now. The only header that will fit on the drivers side withe the recipricatiing ball type gear box is one that you make. No one that I know of has found a header that will fit it its "stock" form(or even lightly modified). How about some pics! T

Guest lukes280
Ill take some pictures once its back from the exhaust shop. I am putting 2" dual pipes into glasspacks. It should be interesting if it works. By the way. I am not using the power steering of the recip ball type. I have bypassed the power steering pump altogether for now. Is it a bad thing if the recip ball type box doesnt have fluid? -Luke

I guess I'm thinking of flipping a shortie headers because unless you got one that was really short you wouldn't have enough room to clear the hood with the bend of the pipe. If you do get this to fit please post some pictures.
