Lunar240z Posted May 24, 2006 Share Posted May 24, 2006 well i've got quite the connundrum here... i've asked on the sr20 forums, but theyr'e a bunch of idiots that don't want to fabricate ANYTHING... you guys are always much more reasonable/open minded so here goes contrary to what some people have told me...my tranny [s15 6speed] doesn't exactly bolt up to my engine fwd [sr16ve] goal... [sr20vet rwd] about half of the bolts line up. and i think i've got a few options here. 1st is sell my block and get a rwd sr20 block [kinda worried about trying to find a block thats in as nice of condition as mine, that won't also be super exspensive] but who knows.. maybe i'll make some money on that one... Easiest^ 2nd is modify the bellhousing by building up some metal with welding, and re-drill the holes with a drill press, this would also require some exstensive modification to fit the starter... i don't mind some work... but i don't want to go crazy trying to get this thing to fit. cheapest^ [as it is i've got more time than money...but that might change.] 3rd is... have an adapter plate made? a buddy of mine's going to be getting a cnc machine sometime later this year he says... but then how exactly would the clutch engage with the transmission input shaft... i can't imagine that not changing anything about how the car shifts with them being further apart and all... possible? just throwing it out there. here's some pics. what do you guys think? Guest Speedyblue Posted May 25, 2006 Share Posted May 25, 2006 Option 4. Get an adaptor made that will bolt onto the engine. If the adaptor is 20mm thick, then cut 20mm off the bellhousing and weld the adaptor onto the bellhousing. Everything will then line up. johnc Posted May 25, 2006 Share Posted May 25, 2006 One very critical aspect of making an adapter or modifying the bellhousing is to make sure the crank and the trans input shaft line up perfectly. Can't you just source the proper bellhousing (that matches up to the engine) and then bolt it to the tranny? Isn't the trans side of both bellhousings the same?
