I'm going to clamp the base to the bench and mark on the scale where the socket sits. The way I figure this will work the best is; weigh all rods at one time, taking the average of each rod measurement to be its true weight (right now the readings are within 1 gram from each data point) Record all rods, big end and little, along with total weight at a given time. Do a bit of grinding or polishing, depending on the weight reduction needed. Re-weigh often. I'll do the same with the pistons. Anything I'm messing up here? dr_hunt Posted May 30, 2006 Share Posted May 30, 2006 Well, you find the lightest weight of all the big ends, make all the heavy big ended rods weigh the same as the lightest rod by taking material off the balance pad, there's other places, but you have to know what your doing. Do the same with the small ends, taking material off the balance pad on the small end of the rod. If your going to go to that much trouble, put some good rod bolts in them and resize the big ends. Workinprogress Posted May 30, 2006 Author Share Posted May 30, 2006 I have ARP rod bolts to install, but I'm going to do that after the balancing is done. My plan is to match all big ends to the lightest, then small ends. Then double check overall weight. Along with matching big ends, I'm going to put a very small radius on the bolt head seating surface corner. This was just a mock up, I'm going to level the rod parallel to the ground. In any case, even if it isnt perfectly level, as long as ALL rods are weighed at the same time, the will be the same. Grant Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
