ZBarn.com is good people!

Recommended Posts

Just placed my order for 5lug hubs and CV axles from Zbarn! They didn't know of us, but the owner was shocked when I told him about some of the cars on our site! He said he constantly gets calls from people wanting to do crazy stuff with their Zs! Said he would be glad to steer people our way!

CV Axles and front hubs were $150 total plus shipping!

I AGREE!!! Z Barn has been a great place to get what I needed in the past. Roger, the owner, is a great guy and everyone I have spoken with is very helpful.

I would love to roam their Z boneyard eek.gif

My experience with them was good. Roger was really cool in mail and over the phone when I ordered. I got a pedal box to convert my automatic car to stick for my swap and it came in reasonable condition (some small places of surface rust where the Datsun paint had worn through, but these are nearly 30 year old cars and they don't store them in a warehouse, so it was expected. A little hammerite and it looks brill.). Price wasn't to bad I didn't think (what do I know?) at $25.00. I'd use them again for sure.

zbarn: "The arms are $80 a pair, but all of them have torn ball joint boots"

me: "I just want good bushings and I don't care about the ball joints"

zbarn: "The ball joints aren't replacable, so the arms are no good"

me: "I have new ball joints for them already"

zbarn: "But they're not replacable"

me: "you're right, just gimme the arms with the bad ball joints at a discount then"

zbarn: "OK, $80 a pair and they're yours"

me: "But they're no good because the ball joints are bad!"

zbarn: "we don't give discounts for broken parts"

me: "whatever, as long as the bushigns are good and they are straight"

zbarn: "Straight as an arrow and the bushings are good"

me: "OK"

A few days later, I get a box with the 2 control arms. One had the sides caved in. Perhaps his definition of "perfectly straight" is different from mine, but one of them definately wasn't perfectly straight.

Stupid ****ers don't know any more than the guy at auto zone about Zs and charge ludicrous prices. No thanks.

I see on their site where they list "driveshafts" for various Z models. But it's unclear whether they mean drive shafts (trans to diff), or axle shafts (diff to wheels).

If they are the latter (which makes more sense anyway), they list $150 for 280zx turbo. Do they have different (perhaps more current) prices over the phone, or were you able to talk their price down (or perhaps they gave you the hubs for free)?

I wonder if they'd throw in the companion flanges for those CV axles. I guess I'll just have to call them.

Hrm. They told me that ball joints on Z31s weren't replacable. When I told him they were the guy copped an atitude.

They sent me my control arms in dreadfully dirty condition and with living insects on them! The sides of one arm were also caved in a bit, even though I said multiple times they had to be perfectly straight.

And they are very proud of their parts as well. If I didn't know better I'd think they were the only place to get parts!

I won't ever order anything from them again, that's for sure.

My experience was a bit different... I ordered from them while they were on vactaion it seems. When I got worried I sent them E-mail and they responded quyickly - the parts were already on the way. Parts arrived a bit dirty but no worse than what was already on the car - this was a rear control arm BTW. Little rust, no bad grease on it, and it was straight -whew! For $25 I was happy - I should've ordered 2!

Oh, I did point out to them that their order page wasn't protected with SSL and that this was a concern. He didn't know what SSL was so I explained it to him and included links to several other sites that further explained what SSL was and why it was important - I never heard back (sigh).

All in all it was a good experience and I'd buy from them again. I'd prefer an SSL based order form though smile.gif heh, now about those CVs....

We have only gotten one bad story about Z Barn so we should just drop it there. One bad experience doesn't make a bad business.

I am just glad they are there. If I need something, and can't find it locally (which IS always my first choice), I can call them and most likely get what I need.

It is a shame that Z Barn doesn't beef up their online presence a bit. I am sure they are busy anyway but why have a website if it isn't a good website? I, too, have picked up the phone after looking at that poor web page. Not gonna type my card info in there!

Well, I finally got the response to my inquiry about CV halfshafts. The following is not really indicative of their ability to deliver good parts at a good price (which I will agree is what's most important in the end), but I found their response to be, well, just really wierd:

Whenever I fill in a website form, I always use the name of the site in the email address I give them. It's a habit - helps me to organize my Inbox and it's also a great anti-spam technique (for instance, when I started getting a bazillion "Get rich quick" emails addressed to ebay@jeromio.com, I added a bounce to that address - no more ebay spam).

So, I get the reply back, $138 inclu. shipping. But, the guy is all upset that I've used zbarn@jeromio.com as an email address! He's talking about copyrights and trademarks and "legal action" (which he graciously will not pursue - I'm so relieved).

Very wierd. Clearly knows nothing about the internet and is perhaps a little too tense in general.

Also signed off with "God Bless", which creeps me out. I'm not comfortable with business/professional stuff mixing with religion. Makes me wonder if they're one of those companies that puts the bible verses on the invoices.

At any rate, looks like my local price is cheaper anyway....

Yeah, my email was replied and ended with 'God Bless' as well. I'll admit, its not something I would do in business as it could alienate some people, but as long as the part price is right, the guy could be a Anton LaVey himself and I wouldn't give a fig. But I understand what your saying, it is a bit odd. But no verses on the invoice. Whatever floats your Ark I guess. smile.gif

Hehe, whatever floats your ark, I like that.

I too am discouraged when I see buisnesses mixing their profession and their religion, in fact its often enough to make me leave.

For those of you that are religious out there, please don't take offense. Its not the religion that bothers me, its the "unprofessionalism". (for some reason that word sounds all wrong to me!)

Okay, I'll admit that creeped me out too. I see "fish" in sales ads occasionally and I really have to wonder if I want to do business with someone that will mix something as personal as religion in with it.

I got my parts, he did it quickly and well, but it was a bit obvious that he didn't clearly understand the 'net (security in particular). That actually worries me more than anyhting else to be honest. I hope to heck the server storing those card numbers is secure. I've half a mind to check myself but the last thing I need is the FBI knocking on my door for a port scan or worse my emplyer getting wind of it (ahem).

Just got my order in and the CV axles were TurboZX units, but the 5 lug hubs they sent weren't the 85-86 model I have thought I requested. I'll have to call them Monday. Other than that, the experience dealing with them was great. They worked with me on shipping it and got the payment squared away even when my Visa company had screwed up my access to my card and blocked it (Still don't know why it was done, but it is fixed now!). So all in all, my experience was pleasent! Just need to swap the hubs for the right ones.
