mason4300
Ok, i'm replacing the water pump on my '78 280Z. The bottommost 2 bolt holes in the engine block are stripped out. I either need to retap them or, if possible, (this would be easier) retap the holes slightly larger and use slightly shorter, larger diameter bolts. If anyone has any info on this that can help me do the best thing, i'd really appreciate it. Its pretty much the only thing keeping me from getting my Z running again. jnjdragracing
Use helicoils, you can purchase them from most automotive shops. You will drill the hole out and tap it, then with the helicoil tool you will install the helicoil, use thread sealer (red). This is the best way to fix striped holes. Works in aluminium and steel. They come in various sizes etc.... John
mason4300
all right, thanks. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I might f*ck up in the block by doing this.
