srgunz
Did a quick search but did not see this. Do you guys measure your valve lash at the cam or the valve? Do you use a different clearance when measured at the valve? In another engine I used to run a cam I got from Racer Brown. He told me to set the lash at the valve with the settings he gave me. Right now the motor I have just has the stock L28 cam. I just set lash at the cam on this one.
dapiper
I also have two grinds of Racer Brown's and I set at 0.006I/0.008"E at valve overnight cold.
srgunz
He ground me one of his autocross profiles for use with chevrolet Luv truck rocker arms. Settings were .006int. and .008exh. at valve Hot!
Administrators BRAAP Posted August 11, 2006 Administrators Share Posted August 11, 2006 “Typical” valve lash measurements are checked at the “cam to rocker” interface. Non typical cams such as the cams that we sell from Rebello and the Racer Brown cam you mentioned, the valve lash is measured at the “rocker tip to lash pad” interface, (i.e. in geometry speak, at the "tip of the valve" vs at the "cam lobe". The latter requires specialized feeler gauges, i.e. modified feeler gauges that will fit under the tip of the rocker arm yet between the uprights of the lash pad itself. Hope this helps, Paul (BRAAP) Ruschman
TimZ
I also have two grinds of Racer Brown's and I set at 0.006I/0.008"E at valve overnight cold. Are you positive that those numbers are at the valve? Wouldn't that result in a cam to rocker clearance of 0.004"I/0.0053"E ? (assuming a 1.5 rocker ratio) Not saying it's wrong, but it does sound pretty darned tight...
