Guest Anonymous
I had one of my 15 x 7 American Eagle Alloy track rims without a tire on it, so I decided to take it to the local "feed and seed" store to weigh it. After absorbing the "are you outta your freakin' mind?" looks for a couple of minutes, we put the wheel on the digital scale and came back with 15.58 pounds. For the sake of accuracy, I then went to a local hardware store where they use a balance type scale to sell nails by the pound. Best read I could get on that scale (in 1/8's) was about 15.6 pounds, so the two matched up well. Now, these are not super-lightweights like Panasports, but I was reasonably pleased with the numbers that came back. Besides, if you order these wheels through your friendly neighborhood parts store or repair shop (who has a tax I.D. # and sounds like a legit business), they only cost about $75. I use the 028 design, which lets a lot of air through to the brakes. Backside measurement is 4", and I have had no problems with the quality of the wheels. They come with 2 sets of lug holes for 4 x 4.5 and 4 x 4.25 (Mustang/Ford) but there seem to be no ill effects from the extra drilling. Under $300 for a full set of tough, reasonably light wheels is a win in my book - just thought I'd share. Owen
There was an interesting thing in the latest import magazines (forgot which one) about performance wheels and tires adding more weight overall in the end, interesting. Owen

Owen That would have been Turbo mag. Yes, even though I don't have a turbo I read the mag. It was a charity thing, ok. They had some good info in there about the extra weight and the difference in heights of various brands causing slower speeds and different torque ratings. They also had several pages of rims with the corresponding weights. Good reading while doing paperwork.

Owen
Actually I just look at the mag to see the girls, lord knows we have enough of those cars around here already! But don't trust everything you read with them, back when I was a regular reader, they made some pretty big mistakes! Same goes for the internet too, it's so easy to publish information today.
