OlderThanMe
*edit* oops, forgot to finish the title..."diagnosing crank bearing wear" I have looked in my haynes manual but there are no diagrams for the connecting rod/crankshaft bearings. The Haynes manual for Mom's Honda Odyssey shows different wear on bearings and I am afraid of what I see. This is my #3 bearing and it looks like what the honda manual said is a warped crankshaft. Most of the other bearings aren't bad but this one is pretty bad. If the crank is warped then I don't want to put this motor back together with it. I would rather get the LD28 crank and wait to put a motor together. My question is what else can cause this kind of wear? there are signs of dry starting but I am not as worried about that right now as this wear. Thanks OTM in despair... kcelectronics
Is that shell from the rod end (top) or from the cap (bottom)? if it is the upper bearing it could also be Detonation damage?
OlderThanMe
Well the carbs were pig rich so I don't think it is detonation. That is the bottom end bearing half If I recall correctly. you can see the top end half in the corner and it is not too bad. I'll go find some of my other pics. here is the #3 part of the crank: this is the other half of the bearing. and the connecting rod without a bearing This is one side of the piston: and the part# on the bearing
JMortensen
Any good machine shop can straighten a crank. If you want the stroker do the stroker, but it isn't necessary to replace this crankshaft.
OlderThanMe
I just don't want to spend any extra cash on a crank I won't be using long term...the crank is still in the engine right now. I may get it straightened and rebuild this block as a backup or for a different car though. We'll see what I can come up with for parts.
