Guest Stoner_eyez
Hey guys, I'll be getting a 1979 280ZX soon. It has no engine or transmission so I was thinking of going with a V8 engine. Now I've tried to search for this but didn't have much luck. Which type of engine would be best to drop into a 280ZX? A LT1 or a Carbureted 350? Phantom
Search under LT1 or 280ZX in the Chevy V8 board. YOu should find information. The LT1 has been done as well as the carburated V8. I think Johns Cars, www.brokenkitty.com has had a kit for the sbc in the 280Zx for about 15 years now.

VinhZXT
Before you start check to see how much rusts you have on that car. I had planned to do my V8 Z 8 years ago and I went out and keep searching for a clean shell. Fortunately I found one with very little rusts and I bought it and it been sitting in my garage since. During that time I was doing all my homeworks and I just got it started this year. There are plenty of info on 280ZX V8 swap on here. I haven't heard of an LS1 280ZX yet. Maybe you can be the first one to built it. Good luck Vinh.
280zwitha383
I have a pretty well rusted 280ZX that hasn't twisted but I'm not running sticky tires. 280ZX's aren't nearly as flimsy as 240z's and I would think will handle a mild 350 even in pretty bad shape with pretty sticky tires. But I like to push stuff people don't think will last so maybe that's just me. www.jagsthatrun.com They have kits for traditional sbc's in 280ZX cars, they work very well but IMO are pretty pricey. If I had to do it again I would have definitely made my own mounts.
80LS1T
I have a 280ZX with an LT1/T56 combo. If I had all the tools that I have now back when I swapped in the motor/tranny I would not have bought the over priced motor mounts. All they do is adapt the chevy 3 bolt pattern on the block to the Datsun 2 bolt pattern on the cross member. Have a look at my web page and you will see what I mean. I even gave the approximate measurements for the amount of space that they are! Guy
